WAYNE HIGHLANDS SCHOOL DISTRICT

SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICES

Welcome to the Wayne Highlands School District. Your child’s health will be one of our prime concerns. The following Health Services will be provided for your child:

  1. Medical examinations for grades K, 1, 6, 11 and new admissions. Parents are urged to have medical examinations done by their family health care provider since he/she is acquainted with your child’s past medical history and is in contact with you at the time of examination. We feel private examinations are more meaningful than mass screenings at school and your child will be more at ease with his/her family health care provider. When the required examination is done by your family health care provider, please have him/her complete the Private Medical Examination Form; return it to the homeroom teacher, office or you may mail it directly to the school nurse at your child’s school. If the exam is not done privately you will be notified of a scheduled school examination for your child.

  1. Dental examinations for grades K, 1, 3, 7 and new admissions.

  1. Vision screening, height and weight yearly – all grades.

  1. Hearing screening for grades K, 1, 2, 3, 7 and 11 and new admissions.

  1. Scoliosis screening for grades, 6 and 7.

  1. Free or reduced lunch for eligible children – applications are available on request from the school office or online through the Food Services Department link.

  1. Immunizations are reviewed to assure your child meets the requirement for attending school in Pennsylvania. Recommendations are made so an optimal level of protection is maintained for your child.

In the event of an emergency, an attempt is always made to notify the family. If the school personnel are unable to contact you, they proceed with the necessary emergency care – including contacting a doctor if deemed necessary. Please complete and return the Emergency Information Card for you child as soon as possible. Please return the Health History form for you child’s Health Record.

Please give the school nurse written notification of any immunizations your child has received since his/her original entry to school.

Please feel free to notify your child’s school nurse about any physical or emotional concerns you may have regarding your child’s general well-being. It is important that the school nurse is made aware of any medications your child may be receiving.

We would appreciate notification of the reason for any extended absence (beyond three days) since this aids in the teacher’s planning for your child. All absences require a note from the parent or guardian stating the days and reason for absence on the day he/she returns to school.   The note is given to the homeroom teacher.

If you need help securing health care (medical or dental) for your child at any time, please contact your child’s school nurse.
