The Stourbridge Elementary School, enrolls approximately 450 children that are bused from Honesdale and surrounding communities. The meeting room for the Wayne County Family Center is located in the Stourbridge School.
A professional staff of 45 full and part time certified teachers are responsible for the educational program at this primary center. Most professional staff hold advanced degrees. In addition, 7 non-professionals support students and teachers.
Stourbridge Students receive a standards-based curriculum approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Wayne Highlands District Board of Education. The curriculum includes instruction in Language Arts (reading, writing, listening and speaking), Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. In addition, enrichment programs in Art, Music, Health, Physical Education, Library Science and Guidance are available to students. The program is basically a child-centered approach to learning that provides the necessary instruction to meet the individual needs of each student. Additionally, Stourbridge elementary offers Title 1 reading and instructional support teams for children who require academic support. A computer lab is integrated into all elementary programs.
Stourbridge offers a variety of services and activities for children and their families. The children participate in field trips related to classroom themes. The first grade classes perform a spring musical each year. There is an active Parent Teacher Association that provides cultural and educational programs that include Red Ribbon Week, Santa's Workshop, Night of 1,000 Reading Stars and the nationally recognized Reflections Program. The school has a Parent Volunteer Program that enriches the educational environment by supporting instruction and sharing special interest and talents with the students and teachers.
