General Information

The Wayne Highlands School District uses a computerized Point of Sale (P O S) system in all school cafeterias.
The advantages of this system are:
  • Eliminate the need for free and reduced meal tickets. This will prevent overt identification of students eligible for meal benefits.
  • Decrease the amount of serving time so students have more time to eat their meals.
  • Allow parents to deposit any amount of money into their students' meal account and then check the account activity (charges and balance) and set up email alerts for a low balance.
Student Identification
Students are identified in the P O S system using their 5 digit student ID which is assigned to each student upon their first entry into school, usually during kindergarten enrollment.

Students will enter their ID number using a PINPAD at the end of the lunch line. Their account information and photo will display on the cashier's screen. The cashier will charge the cost of the food items to their account.

Students in kindergarten will initially be identified by a bar code homeroom roster or name tag and the cashier will scan the barcode assigned to the student's name. They will eventually learn to input their ID number with the PINPAD.

The Account:  Depositing Funds

IN SCHOOL:  YELLOW envelopes are provided for you to deposit funds (check or cash) into your student's account. You do not need to use these if you write a check - PLEASE write your student's name and school ID number on the check. Checks are to be made payable to: "WHSD Food Service". Students need to drop funds off in the morning in the cafeteria or in the food service black DROP BOX located in/near the main office. (HHS, WHMS, LAKESIDE,DAMASCUS)

ONLINE:   Website:  www.myschoolaccount.com
                Email:  support@myschoolaccount.com
Parents can set up an account by logging into the web address above. They must first set up a user name & password and then "link" their student(s) to this account with their student's ID number. Parents may only use a checking account with a routing number to make an online payment. NO DEBIT OR CREDIT CARDS.  A $2.00 FEE PER TRANSACTION (not per student) WILL BE CHARGED. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY ONLINE... just set up an account to check your student's balance and activity.

The Account:  Using Funds

As students pass through the serving line, the cashier charges the food items to their account and the cost is deducted from the balance in the account. Account funds may buy meals and some alacarte items such as an extra entree or water bottle or juice cup. FREE eligible students will not be charged for meals; only alacarte items. REDUCED eligible students will be charged $.40 for lunch and $.30 for breakfast and any alacarte items.

Free or Reduced Meals

All students bring home a free/reduced school meal application during the first week of school; only one application per family needs to be completed. Families can apply online at http://www.compass.state.pa.us any time after July 1st for the next school year. This application is electronically delivered right to the Food Service Director's mailbox on the COMPASS site. Paper applications should be delivered to the school as soon as possible. The previous year's eligibility will be used for the first month of school only.

Students who qualify for the free or reduced meals will have an account in the systems like all other students.

At checkout, the meal is charged to their account at the free or reduced level. For students eligible for free meals, no additional funds must be sent. *For students eligible for reduced meals, funds must be deposited in the account.

*Parents may deposit additional funds to allow free eligible students to purchase alacarte items, such as a water bottle or an extra entree.

Low Balance

When a student has a negative balance, a YELLOW envelope will be sent home which serves as a notice that funds need to be deposited in your student's account.  Please pay all charges ASAP. Schools sent out negative balance notices once a week, so please check your student's book bag regularly.

There will be NO NEGATIVE BALANCES (NO CHARGING) ALLOWED at the HIGH SCHOOL.

We urge you to prevent your child's account from being depleted.

Report cards will be held if a student owes the cafeteria money and released only after the debt is paid.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can students check their balance?
A. Students can ask the cashier to provide them with their account balance or check the PINPAD display for their balance once they put in their student ID number. Numbers displayed in (parentheses) mean a negative balance.

Q. Can students still use cash in line?
A.  Yes, However, to speed up the meal service, we strongly encourage ALL parents AND students to deposit money into their accounts in the morning or online.

Q. I just sent in money; why is my student's account balance low?
A. When you deposit funds into an account, you naturally tend to worry less about it. Within a short time, the balance is depleted by daily charges. If you student is not allowed to purchase "extras," please make sure s(he) know what. Set up email alerts so you will know when you student's account balance is becoming low.  PLEASE NOTE:  Online payments take 12 hours to post to your student's account.
