Introduction

Edgar Allan Poe has been said to be a man of uniqueness and mystery.  People claim that Poe was never truly understood.  His works were morbid and unique, very parallel to his life.  Today we still celebrate this strange writer and still search for answers to the life he lived and the way it ended.  Poe had many disappointments and accomplishments in his life.   Your mission is to explore Poe’s life and pieces of works before we begin a unit on Poe.

Task

With a partner you will research Edgar Allan Poe’s life.  Your task is then to create a visual aid to illustrate his life’s accomplishments and hardships.  Choose a visual aid that will work best for you.  Some choices include a slide show, brochure, oral presentation, or collages.  Topics to research include:  Poe’s biography, his accomplishments, and a list of major pieces of work.  Please only highlight important information which gives a deeper insight to his writing.  Break Poe’s life into three main categories when researching:  early life and adult life.  When listing his pieces of work, include a variety of genres.

Process

Decide what each person is going to research.  After you have gained your information, then decide how your group is going to illustrate the information.  Make a decision based on your experience and knowledge.  If you are really good with a computer, then the brochure or slide show is something you should consider.  If your experience with technology is limited, then consider another method.
