Description: This is a really challenging web quest. The only way that you can achieve the final goal is to carefully research and invest your inheritance in the stock market.
Introduction You class is contacted by an attorney. The attorney tells you that a wealthy alumnus from your school has passed on and left your business class with an inheritance. There is a pretty harsh catch though. The former student created a challenge for your class in their will. They left the class with $10,000. If anyone in the class can turn that $10,000 into $11,000 in a month or less, the inheritance will be worth a $1,000,000 dollars winner, takes all. There is only one stipulation. The only way you are allowed to have the money grow is by investing in the stock market.
Tasks You have only one day to learn everything you need to know about the stock market. You must begin to research how the market works, how trades are made, how to determine if a company’s stock is a good choice for you. Then you must begin to actually pick three companies and follow their stock price from where you would buy it to where you would sell. You can sell a stock and take a profit or a loss only three times throughout this project. At the end of the month, you will sell all stocks you have to determine if you gained a $1,000 or more.
Process To complete this task you will take the following steps:
1. Complete the Learning the Stock Market Worksheet.
2. Complete the source worksheet to document the exact resources used for this project.
3. Complete the Stock Tracking worksheet. You are to choose three companies to start. At the end of each week, you will decide whether to sell the stock or keep it. After you pick your first three companies, you can only make three more trades throughout the entire project. Make sure to keep this in mind. Every time a trade is made you can calculate the gain or loss toward you total initial balance of $10,000.
4. Complete the Final Analysis Worksheet to calculate your outcome.
